Storm Chaser Stables

March 2023 Newsletter

Hello hello to our Storm Chaser Stables farm family! Some days it feels like Spring and other times the March wind is biting, so please continue to come dressed in layers. Coats or jackets, socks, gloves, scarves, hats, sunglasses, and rainwear are all a good idea of clothing items to bring or pack!

We are SO excited to announce that we have enough Board Members to begin filings as a nonprofit! Interested in joining the board or have a candidate in mind? Please email us at [email protected] to inquire! As always, we continue to seek volunteers to help out on the farm with caretaking tasks, maintenance, and assisting with group activities.

Upcoming Planned CLOSURES! Our next closure for the Farm Campus will be March 8th in which no programs will be running. The next planned closure will be for Spring Break! The Farm Campus will be CLOSED for all programs April 3-7th UNLESS you have registered for the Bridle-less Riding Clinic (more info on that below).

Upcoming Planned Closures March 8th 2023 for Staff Day and April 3-7th 2023 for Spring Break

Farm School Day Program Scholarships Available! Following our dream to make enrichment on the farm a viable option for more families, we are pursuing nonprofit formation. In honor of this effort we have opted to offer two half scholarships—that is 50% off our advertised Farm School tuition rate! We have openings for full or half days at Farm School on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! Please contact us for details.

What’s Farm School Like? Our unique school modality allows learners to receive tutoring, play outside, learn about the rhythms of nature, and participate in horsemanship activities. Learners are encouraged to bring their own curriculum if not working with our partner, Acellus Academy. Farm School includes daily academic blocks with 1-1 tutoring available to all students, mindful movement, horsemanship option on certain days, expressive art projects, nature exploration, and free play on the farm. Learners may attend with flexible scheduling options—please contact us with your family’s unique academic needs!

New Merch Drop! Our newest t-shirt design is a cute original drawing of Punkin, one of the best lesson ponies on the farm! You can find this shirt and other fun designs in our merchandise shop! Please visit the merch store and consider purchasing to help support our equine partners and program development. Stay tuned for more new designs coming up soon!

SCS Equestrian Team Update! This year we are offering two levels of team membership: Travel and Ancillary Teams. The Travel Team will attend shows at Silver Star Farm in Spotsylvania this year. The Ancillary Team will develop key skills in horsemanship and sportsmanship with the option to “pick up” rides at some events. The entire team will meet regularly for group team building sessions and to plan fun free events on the farm. Interested in the team experience for your child? SCS Equestrian Team membership is offered by invitation to horsemanship students who exemplify our farm’s core values of kindness, safety, horsemanship skillset excellence, and sportsmanship. Contact us to learn more!

CVHR 2023 Youth Trainer Challenge Update! A lot has happened since our last update. Phantom was cleared to continue his training! It has been a journey. Annabelle has discovered more of his quirks, like his joy of rolling in sand, and how to overcome some of their training challenges, such as ground driving and desensitizing him to things on his back! The Youth Trainer Showcase will be a virtual event in which each youth trainer presents a video sharing their stories. Stay tuned for our video! We continue to fundraise with Central Virginia Horse Rescue for the care of Phantom and the other youth trainer horses!
